Along the coastline of the Indian Ocean, employees of Kenya’s Ocean Sole gather discarded shoes that wash up on shore. Further than just preventing ocean pollution and clogged waterways, they actually recycle the waste, turning old shoes into new toys, accessories, statues, and various bespoke gifts, sold around the world.
Since its start in 1997, the foundation has been recycling over 400 kilos of rubber shoe waste annually, growing large enough to provide much-needed employment to over 100 individuals in the Nairobi city slums. It’s so inspiring to see a commitment to not only cleaning up our beautiful Earth, but adding further beauty to it by creating a meaningful contribution! Enjoy…x
